MANILA, Philippines - A suspected drug pusher was killed during the a sting operation in Davao City, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said on Wednesday.
PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr.only identified the suspect as Payat.
Reports showed that anti-narcotics agents conducted a buy-bust operation last July 27 inside the garage of Mallen Trans BusGaray compound, Ecoland, Davao City around 11:30 p.m.
Authorities were about to arrest Payat when he pulled out a hand grenade and tried to pull out the pin, prompting the operatives to shoot the suspect, reports said.
The suspect was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital but doctors could no longer revive him.
Recovered from the suspect’s possession were four kilograms of dried marijuana fruiting tops placed inside a box, a fragmentation grenade and a fan knife.
Seized pieces of drug evidence were brought to the Davao City Regional Crime laboratory of the Philippine National Police for examination, the PDEA said.
