CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, Philippines – Just as preparations for the October barangay polls are underway, a village councilman here was gunned down by motorcycle-riding men Monday morning, police said.
Superintendent Marvin Saro, Calamba police chief, said Barangay Batino councilman Pepito Lambino was on board a passenger jeepney when his two attackers fired at him with a .45-caliber pistol at around 6:30 a.m. Monday.
The gunmen fled toward the city proper on board an unlicensed red Honda Wave motorcycle after the attack.
Saro said they were still clueless on the motive behind the killing of Lambino, who was reportedly either seeking re-election or aspiring for barangay chairman.
