BFAR raises red tide alert in Palawan’s Honda Bay

MANILA, Philippines - Honda Bay in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan has been found positive for red tide microorganisms, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

In a notice published yesterday, the BFAR said that based on the latest laboratory tests, red tide toxins are also still present in Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur; Murcielagos Bay in Zamboanga del Norte and Misamis Occidental; Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar; Cambatutay Bay, Irong-Irong Bay and the coastal waters of Calbayog City in Western Samar.

As such, all types of shellfish and alamang gathered from these areas are not safe for human consumption.
