NPA leader facing murder, robbery raps nabbed in N. Samar
MANILA, Philippines - A leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) who is facing murder and robbery charges has been arrested by security forces in Catarman, Northern Samar.
Capt. Amado Gutierrez, spokesman of the Army’s 8th division, said Bernardo Subalisid Llave was apprehended last Tuesday along G.H. del Pilar Street in Barangay Molave at around 11:45 a.m.
Llave, who reportedly used the aliases Lupao, Lito, Fidel and Ricky, was arrested by virtue of a warrant issued by a local court for the crimes of multiple murder, frustrated murder and robbery in band.
Gutierrez said the suspect has held various posts in the NPA including political instructor of security force of a provincial rebel committee and secretary of a local rebel committee.
Gutierrez said security forces planned for Llave’s arrest after a civilian had complained about his extortion activities.
Maj. Gen. Gerardo Layug, commander of the Army’s 8th division, said the military would continue to conduct operations to ensure the safety of the people in Eastern Visayas.
