ATIMONAN, Quezon, Philippines – A bus driver died on the spot while at least 28 others suffered injuries when the bus collided head-on with a truck carrying vegetables along the Maharlika Highway in this town yesterday morning, authorities said.

Senior Superintendent Dionardo Carlos, Quezon police director, said the truck was negotiating a descending curved portion of the highway when it sideswiped a van parked on the right shoulder of the road, and then collided with an incoming Cul Transport bus.

Bus driver Eduardo Hinay Reviso, 43, was pinned in his vehicle and died on the spot. Those injured, including truck driver Marcelino Herrera Martin and his helper, were rushed to the Doña Martha Memorial District Hospital here and other clinics. – Ed Amoroso, Michelle Zoleta
