ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 60 passengers of a Sulu-bound boat, at least 29 local tourists stranded on an island and 16 fishermen from Bohol – or a total 105 people – when a storm surge occurred Saturday, authorities said.
The storm surge, caused by the intertropical convergence zone, also left hundreds of passengers stranded in ports here after the PCG stopped all kinds of seacraft from sailing.
Lt. Cmdr. Jomark Angue, PCG station commander, said big waves swept M/L Sheraini, which was carrying 60 passengers, as it was sailing toward Laminusa Island in Sulu.
