New LPA spotted

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A low pressure area (LPA) was spotted off Hinatuan City yesterday, but state weather forecasters said it has a small chance of becoming a tropical depression.

Connie Dadivas, of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said the LPA was moving west and is unlikely to intensify into a tropical depression.

In its 5 p.m. forecast, PAGASA said the LPA was estimated to be at 280 kilometers east of Hinatuan City.  It is reportedly embedded in the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) that is affecting Mindanao.

The Visayas and the regions of Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao would have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
