Imee: Resolve mayoral standoff in Marcos town
LAOAG CITY, Philippines – Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos yesterday urged the Commission on Elections and the Department of the Interior and Local Governments to resolve the mayoral standoff in Marcos town where the two rivals in the recent polls have been holding office at the town hall since July 1.
Marcos said the leadership crisis does not augur well for the local populace, adding that the town is the poorest in the province.
Earlier, the governor asked Salvador Pillos who ran for re-election as mayor but lost to Arsenio Agustin, to step down while the legal issues surrounding the mayoral row are being ironed out.
Agustin was proclaimed as the winner in the mayoral race, but Pillos sought his disqualification over citizenship issues.
