No night flights at Princesa airport

MANILA, Philippines - There will be no night flights at the Puerto Princesa International Airport until the end of the month after one of its navigational aids bogged down.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippine (CAAP) deputy director general John Andrews confirmed that the precision approach path indicator (PAPI) lights at the Puerto Princesa airport’s runway 27 shut down and that it would take until the end of the month to repair these.

With the PAPI lights out, no flights will be allowed at night and during inclement weather.

The PAPI, according to a CAAP official, is a vital navigational aid during aircraft landing, as pilots use it as visual aid to know whether they are on the right angle while approaching the runway. – Perseus Echeminada, Rudy Santos
