John Unson - The Philippine Star

SULTAN KUDARAT, Philippines – Two motorcycle-riding men shot dead a court sheriff in a residential area in Isulan town on Tuesday morning, police said Wednesday.

The fatality was identified as Edwin Cabug, an employee of the Sultan Kudarat Regional Trial Court Branch 19 in Isulan. Cabug is also the town's judiciary summons officer on a concurrent capacity.

Superintendent Roel Surmese, chief of the Isulan municipal police, said Cabug was busy sweeping at their front yard when the gunmen pulled over and opened fire.

Cabug died from multiple gunshot wounds in the body.

Surmese said that according to the witnesses, the gunmen casually walked away from the scene and boarded their motorcycle after the shooting incident.

Investigators have yet to establish the identities of the gunmen and their motive for killing.
