Ben Serrano - The Philippine Star

BUTUAN CITY , Philippines   â€“ Army soldiers found 318 sticks of superdyne explosives planted along the road in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, and at an abandoned rebel camp in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur the other day.

First to be recovered were the 142 sticks of superdyne explosives in Sitio Mabug, Barangay San Roque, Bislig City, while another 176 were found inside the rebel camp.

Bislig City is 137 kilometers away from Butuan City, Caraga Region’s regional center, while Bunawan in Agusan del Sur is 130 kilometers away.

Lt. Lito Borces, spokesman for the Army’s 75th IB, told The STAR that the explosives found in Bislig City were enough to kill 60 to 70 individuals if it exploded or detonated.

“A concerned citizen discovered the bombs planted along the road and called our attention. If not for the informant’s call, many people could have been killed in case it accidentally exploded or detonated,” Borces said.

He said the superdyne bombs are used in mining operations such as blasting and quarrying.
