LAGUNA, Philippines – Two-hundred-nineteen city and municipal mayors took their oath of office yesterday along with 10 elected governors in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) regions.
Juanito Icarro, regional director of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Region 4A and B, told The STAR that most of the elected mayors, vice mayors and city councilors and congressmen took their oath in their respective jurisdictions.
Icarro said the law provides that judges, governors and prosecutors can swear in the elected officials.
“It depends to the elected officials who to choose to administer their oathtaking,†Icarro said.
He said aside from 19 congressmen, there were 17 city and 129 town mayors in Calabarzon while Mimaropa has two city and 71 municipal mayors, and seven congressmen who took their oath.
