Ben Serrano - The Philippine Star

SURIGAO CITY, Philippines – President Aquino is reportedly eyeing Siargao Island as a venue for the holding of a Cabinet meeting in August, according to Surigao del Norte Rep. Francisco Tinio Matugas.

The lawmaker made the announcement before a crowd who attended the inauguration rites of newly elected officials of the province at a gym in Surigao City.

Matugas said Budget Secretary Florencio Abad has told his wife, Gov. Sol Matugas, about the President’s  desire to hold a Cabinet meeting in the island.

“If this will happened, this will be the first time that a Cabinet meeting will be held in our province and even in the entire Caraga region. We told Secretary Abad that we will be glad and honored to host it in August,” Matugas said.

Siargao Island is a favorite surfing destination of local and foreign tourists. It has been named recently by CNN and by international travel magazines as one of the 10 best surfing destinations in the world.
