Leni to co-author re-filed FOI bill

MANILA, Philippines - Incoming Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo will co-author the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill to be re-filed with the incoming 16th Congress, one of the measure’s principal authors said yesterday.

Re-elected Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat said Robredo has agreed to support the proposed FOI law.

Aside from her, he said he has solicited the support of other House colleagues and party-list representatives for the bill.   

“We have to learn from our previous failures and should be wiser this time. That means starting the process early and filing the bill as soon as the 16th Congress opens. We also have to get more legislators to be champions of the crucial bill,” he said.

Baguilat has taken over from outgoing Quezon Rep. Erin Tañada the job of leading the campaign for the approval of the measure.
