MANILA, Philippines - The city government of Manila on Wednesday ordered the closure of a business establishment which caused an oil spill last week along Pasig River.
Reports said the local officials will serve the closure order to Lorraine Marketing after discovering that it has no permit to store used oil in its compound along Old Panaderos, Sta. Ana, Manila.
City officials will also check records of establishments in the area which are engaged in similar business to prevent a similar oil spill incident, reports added.
They will also check other documents of Lorraine Marketing to trace how it was able to operate with the proper permits.
Residents in the area were roused by the stench from the oil spill from the compound of Lorraine Marketing along the Pasig River.
Some of the residents were rushed to a hospital after experiencing difficulty in breathing.
