Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A vice mayoral candidate who lost in the recent polls was killed in an ambush in a village in Roseller T. Lim town, Zamboanga Sibugay last Sunday, authorities said.

Police said the victim, Damerl Ulao, 47, was on his way home on board a motorcycle when he was waylaid in Barangay Magsaysay at 8:10 p.m. last Sunday.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesman of the Region 9 police, said Ulao was shot several times with a .45-caliber pistol. Six spent shells, two bullet fragments and metal spikes wrapped in black cloth was found at the ambush site.

Ulao’s family suspects that the killing could be related to the recent elections, as he had reportedly filed an electoral protest.
