MANILA, Philippines - Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has urged Filipinos to tour their visiting relatives and friends to religious places, particularly to historical churches in the country.
Tagle said shopping malls, restaurants and tourist spots are the usual favorite destinations, and seldom do people include in their itinerary visits to Catholic churches.
“Many of today’s youth, when they go out, where do they go? I hope not to places for their vices and not to places that would lead them to trouble. Bring your friends closer to God. For the married people where do you go when you date? Do you go to the restaurants, to shopping malls? Bring them closer to God,†Tagle said in a mass at the San Fernando de Dilao Parish last June 8.
He said aside from tourist spots and entertainment centers, balikbayans should also be taken to a pilgrimage noting that there are many beautiful and historical churches in the country.
He said Filipinos could also take their visiting relatives to a Bible study to pass the time.
“That is one way where the faithful would be like Mary, who brings people closer to God,†he said.
