Lightning kills OFW
CANDABA, Pampanga, Philippines – A vacationing overseas Filipino worker was killed after he was hit by a lightning in front of his girlfriend in Barangay Mangumbali here last Wednesday.
Rafael Mamawan, 23, and his girlfriend Abigail Gatus, 21, were set to be married by the end of this year.
Mamawan, who arrived recently from Saudi Arabia, had asked Gatus to accompany him to a ricefield, which he used to till before he left to work abroad.
Police said the two rode a tricycle to the field. Mamawan alighted to inspect the farm leaving his girlfriend in the tricycle.
Gatus said her boyfriend was returning to the tricycle when lightning struck. She and the tricycle driver brought Mamawan to the nearby San Miguel Emergency Hospital but he did not make it.
