Robbers fail to get town’s P3.6-M payroll

Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY , Philippines   â€“ The municipal treasurer of Aglipay town in Quirino province, along with four companions, was able to survive an attempt by armed men to cart away P3.6-million payroll he was carrying last Thursday, police said.

Municipal treasurer Gilbert Pagulayan and his companions were cruising a barangay road in Aglipay town when men on board a Tamaraw FX sprayed bullets at their Nissan Safari, according to a report reaching Superintendent Rioger Quesada, Quirino police director.

Pagulayan’s driver swerved the Nissan Safari into a shallow ravine where it overturned. The group then crawled out through the windows.

The armed men took the bags in the Nissan Safari, including one where Pagulayan kept his .45-caliber pistol, but not the laptop bag which had the P3.6 million that was withdrawn from the Land Bank branch in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya.
