BATANGAS , Philippines – The assistant provincial prosecutor of this province was killed in an ambush by motorcycle-riding men at the boundary of San Luis and Sta. Teresita towns yesterday morning, police said.
Reports said prosecutor Alexander Sandoval, 40, had just come from a hearing in Lemery town and was heading home aboard his Toyota Revo when he was waylaid at around 11 a.m. yesterday.
Sandoval, according to initial information, died on the spot from nine bullet wounds.
The gunmen’s motorcycle was found abandoned a few kilometers away from the ambush scene.
The two escaped on foot toward a sugarcane plantation where one of them was cornered by responding policemen, said Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona, Calabarzon police director.
Quoting witnesses, police said a group of men on board a white Toyota Corolla with license plate TDD-852 served as backup of Sandoval’s gunmen.
