Colleges, universities suspend classes due to heavy rain, flooding

MANILA, Philippines - Several colleges and universities in Manila and Quezon City suspended afternoon classes on Thursday due to heavy rain and flooding.

Classes have been suspended in:

  • Adamson University
  • University of Santo Tomas
  • University of the Philippines in Manila
  • Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila
  • San Beda College
  • College of Saint Benilde
  • De La Salle University
  • Philippine Women University
  • Far Eastern University
  • San Sebastian College
  • Sta. Isabel College
  • St. Paul College in Manila and Quezon City
  • St. Scholastica's College
  • University of the East-Manila

Classes in all public elementary and high schools have also been suspended by the local government of Manila.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has issued flood alerts in Manila, particularly in Espana and Taft avenues.

Weather bureau PAGASA said in its thunderstorm advisory issued at 3:35 p.m., a thunderstorm is affecting a large part of Metro Manila and and Cavite province.

These areas include Mandaluyong City, Makati City, Paranaque City, Las Pinas City, Muntinlupa, Quezon City, Pasay City, Manila City and the Camanava area; Dasmarinas in Cavite province.

The weather bureau said heavy rains will continue to hit these areas within two hours or until after 5 p.m.
