2 killed, 1 hurt in Quezon road mishap
MANILA, Philippines - Two persons died when a cargo truck turned turtle after ramming several coconut trees in Calauag, Quezon, early Monday.
Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos, acting director of the Quezon Provincial Police Office, identified the fatalities as truck driver Emmanuel Anabo Marquez, 35, married, of Pulido Extension, Carmona, Cavite; and Ligaya Pacheco Arida, 48, single, a resident of Barangay Villa Nava, Gumaca, Quezon.
Both victims died on the spot. The injured victim was identified as truck helper Teodorico Maranca Anabo, 57, single, of San Antonio, Kalayaan, Laguna.
Carlos said that based on initial reports, the Isuzu trailer truck (ZGG 221) was negotiating a descending portion of the Maharlika Highway when its brakes malfunctioned. He said the truck skidded and ran out of control onto a coconut grove.
The truck carrying 1,000 sacks of cement, was bound for General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite when the accident occurred in Barangay Lungib at around 1:30 a.m.
The two fatalities died after being pinned inside the cab of the truck.
A truck equipped with a crane passing by the area was able to immediately extricate Anabo from the wreckage and bring him to the St. Peter’s General Hospital.
