MANILA, Philippines - Two earthquakes – magnitudes 5.2 and 4.3 – hit Surigao del Norte yesterday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The magnitude 5.2 quake was recorded at 3:36 p.m. located 131 kilometers northeast of Burgos town.
An hour and a half earlier, a magnitude 4.3 tremor was felt 115 kms northeast of Burgos town.
The Phivolcs said both quakes were tectonic in origin.
Also yesterday, the Phivolcs said a magnitude 2.9 tremor was recorded at 4:38 a.m. in Eastern Samar.
The quake was located three kilometers northeast of San Julian town. It was felt at Intensity 2 in Borongan City, and in San Julian and Sulat towns.
The quake followed a magnitude 5.1 tremor that shook the province shortly before midnight last Friday.
