ARGAO, Cebu, Philippines – A municipal councilor was shot dead at the town’s public market the other day.
Joaquin Banosong, 64, a resident of Barangay Talaga, suffered gunshot wounds in the head. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital.
Banosong was about to board his silver Hyundai Starex van when an unidentified man shot him several times.
SPO1 Arnold Abenir said the gunman could have tailed Banosong on his way to the market.
Police are looking for a woman who reportedly witnessed the incident.
Argao Mayor Edsel Galeos ordered a speedy investigation into the killing, which he believes was not politically motivated.
Galeos said Banosong, a municipal councilor for three terms, did not have any problem with anyone and performed his job well.
Banosong was the head of the Alcoy police station before he entered politics. –
