Armed men fire at Dipolog radio station

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Unidentified gunmen strafed a radio station in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte at dawn Friday, police said yesterday.

Franklin Lim, owner of the DXFL 88.9 FM, told police a bullet pierced the glass window of the announcer’s booth.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesman of the Region 9 police, said no one was hurt or killed in the incident.

Lim told police investigators that they heard the burst of gunfire at about 2:30 a.m. but they ignored it, thinking it was just firecrackers.

Police recovered four shells and eight slugs believed to be from a caliber .45 pistol.

Lim said he received no threats to his life prior to the incident.

Police have yet to determine if the radio station was used for political campaign during the recent elections.
