Korean drug fugitive nabbed in Manila
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Friday announced the arrest in Manila of a drug fugitive from South Korea.
PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. said Eun Sun Woo was arrested by operatives in Malate, Manila last May 28 after the suspect came out of a popular casino.
Cacdac said a confidential agent tipped off PDEA operatives of Woo's whereabouts before the foreigner's arrest.
He said that an agent approached and invited Woo to the PDEA office, prompting the Korean to run away.
After a brief chase, agents managed to subdue Woo in front a hotel in the area, Cacdac added.
"Mr. Eum has been convicted on March 20, 2009 for violation of the Act on the Control of Narcotics in South Korea and sentenced to three years imprisonment at The Korean Correctional Service in Gonju," Cacdac said.
"He admitted that he violated Philippine Immigration Laws but denied any wrongful act he committed in South Korea. He even tried to bribe the PDEA agents whom he mistakenly identified as Immigration Officers in order to evade arrest," he added.
After interviewing Woo, Park Yongjeung, Second Secretary and Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, requested the PDEA authorities that the suspect be detained at the Immigration Detention Facility in Bicutan, Taguig City to facilitate his deportation.
