Rebel arrested in Quezon

CAMP GUILLERMO NAKAR, Lucena City, Philippines – Authorities arrested a suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerilla and seized firearms following an encounter in Real, Quezon Sunday.

Soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Division, led by Cpl. Antonio  Lawagan, clashed with a group of rebels while on their way to Barangay Llavac to respond to reports about the presence of armed men in the area.

The rebels fled after a 25-minute firefight, leaving their  wounded comrade, identified as Roger Villaflores of Barangay Cagsiay Mauban town.

A civilian identified as Ferdinand Sayno, of Barangay Magsaysay, Siniloan, Laguna, was wounded in the crossfire.

Soldiers recovered from the site an M16 rifle, 14 grenades, bullets and documents believed to belong to the rebels.
