NBI prober suspended for misconduct

Danny B. Dangcalan - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY – A special investigator of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was suspended by the Office of the Ombudsman for the Visayas in connection with misconduct charges filed by a radio broadcaster.

Deputy Ombudsman Pelagio Apostol ordered NBI special investigator Geovel Aperio suspended for three months without pay.

Apostol said Aperio is liable for simple misconduct based on a complaint filed by Rommel Pido, a broadcaster of DYAF Radio Veritas.

Pido said he criticized Aperio in his radio program after he received text messages from his listeners accusing the NBI investigator of committing abuses in 2010.

Aperio, who was reportedly armed, came to the radio station and confronted Pido.

The Ombudsman ruled that the respondent intended to harass the complainant.
