New P’sinan seminary opens this school year

Eva Visperas - The Philippine Star

SAN FABIAN, Pangasinan, Philippines – The newly built Mary Help of Christians Theology Seminary (MHCTS) in Barangay Palapad here, the first of its kind since the Lingayen-Dagupan Archdiocese was established 50 years ago, is opening its doors to incoming freshmen this school year.

Fr. Oliver Mendoza, MHCTS rector and procurator, told The STAR that they are expecting an initial batch of 13 theology seminarians from the archdiocese and two others from Nueva Segovia.

“That’s already a big number,” he said, adding that when he was still taking up theology, there were 18 in his batch from the entire Northern Luzon.

Mendoza said he expects the number of seminarians to gradually increase over the years.
