Million pesos worth of defective electrical items seized

MANILA, Philippines - Police have seized million pesos worth of defective electrical products from three condominium units in Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office said on Monday.

NCRPO chief director Leonardo Espina said the substandard electrical products were confiscated from units 101 G-7 Sons Building 646 Pereira St. Muelle de Binondo; 3rd floor Birch Tree Plaza No. 8250 Muelle de Industria; 108 Li Seng Giap; and 606 of 517 Camba St., all in Binondo, Manila.

The units are all owned by Jonathan Hou and 12 others, Espina said.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Zaldy Docena of Malabon City Regional Trial Court Branch 170, police operatives raided the units after a concerned citizen reported to the police about defective electrical products he bought from a known supplier.

Police submitted the products to the Department of Trade and Industry which discovered the items to be expired while some were recycled.

Espina said the suspects were not around during the implementation of the warrant last May 17.

"Just the same, we will file cases against them,” Espina said, noting a case for violation of Republic Act 7394 Article 18 or Consumers Protection Act will be filed before the Manila Prosecutors Office against the suspects.

He also reminded the consumers to check and verify the electrical products purchased before using them.
