Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Alert government troops found a cache of assault rifles in the vicinity of a public elementary school in Dimataling, Zamboanga del Sur last Sunday, the military said.

Capt. Jefferson Somera, spokesman of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division, said men of the 53rd Infantry Battalion were scouring the vicinity of Barangay Buburay Elementary School when they found the firearms believed being readied to sabotage yesterday’s balloting.

Recovered were a baby Armalite, an M-14, an M1 Garand, a M79 grenade launcher, two modified M1 carbines, and a .45-caliber pistol.
