Cop shot dead while guarding PCOS machines

MANILA, Philippines - A police officer was killed after four armed men opened fire at a security team guarding the precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines in Borongan City, Eastern Samar yesterday morning.

Police Officer 1 Agerico Afable died on the spot in the attack that occurred at past 4 a.m. in a voting precinct in Barangay Calingatngan.    

Injured in the incident was village watchman Glicerio Gema while his companion, Ronnie Basana, survived unscathed.

Chief Superintendent Elmer Soria, director of the Eastern Visayas police, said the gunmen fled taking with them Afable’s pistol and the police uniform of Police Officer 1 Cesar Yu.

The gunmen left the PCOS machines untouched.

Soria said teams from the Borongan City police and the provincial police are pursuing the gunmen.
