Mancao: I won't surrender
MANILA, Philippines - Former police Superintendent Cesar Mancao, a key witness on the twin slay of publicist Salvador Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito, on Thursday said he will not surrender to authorities despite the call of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima to turn himself in within the day.
In a radio interview, Mancao said he fears for his life with his pending transfer from the National Bureau of Investigation detention center to the Manila City jail.
"Isang bala lang tayo...kung sungkitin tayo ng kwarentay singko diyan, wala na...sana kung irerewind natin," said Mancao, who escaped from the NBI compound Thursday early dawn to evade the transfer.
Mancao said he is still a prosecution witness for in the double murder case now pending before the Manila court.
"Ako ang witness, ako pa ang kinukulong, ako pa ang ginigipit," he said, claiming that even the judge handling the case has been influenced by his enemies.
Mancao said most of those involved and masterminded in the killing of Dacer and Corbito are now enjoying the time of their lives outside jail.
He also cleared his NBI escorts of any involvement in his escape.
"Iyong mga gwardyang nandyan, hindi nila alam ang ginawa ko...Huwag na silang idamay," he said.
