COTABATO CITY, Philippines – A candidate running for councilor in a town in North Cotabato was killed in an attack Sunday night.
Gafur Omar was on his way home from a campaign sortie in Banisilan town when an unidentified gunman shot him.
Senior Superintendent Danny Peralta, head of the North Cotabato police, said investigators have yet to determine if the killing was politically-motivated.
A month ago, two security escorts of a re-electionist councilor in the same town were wounded in an attack believed perpetrated by a political rival.
