Palayan bet: I’m against landfill deal
PALAYAN CITY , Philippines – Mayoral candidate Rianne Cuevas yesterday dismissed allegations that she is supporting a sanitary landfill project in this city, saying she in fact led a united front against a similar project entered into by the city government that led to its eventual stoppage.
The truth of the matter is that I am an anti-landfill crusader,†said Cuevas amid accusations that she might revive an agreement the city government entered into with a waste-to-energy corporation to establish a 20-hectare sanitary landfill in the city if she gets elected.
“I would like to put it on record that aside from (Nueva Ecija) Gov. (Aurelio) Umali, I was also instrumental in having the lease agreement entered into between the city government and EcoSci Corp. voided because the firm does not have the technical capability to undertake the (project),†she said.
