Comelec: Papin can run for Congress

Sheila Crisostomo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has given singer Imelda Papin the go-signal to run for congresswoman of San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan.

In a resolution, the Comelec granted Papin’s motion for reconsideration and reversed the earlier decision of its Second Division declaring Papin unqualified to run for Congress.

The ruling stemmed from the disqualification case filed by Arangkada San Joseno Political Party, alleging Papin’s supposed failure to meet the one-year residency requirement.

“I have been praying (for this),” said Papin who previously served as Camarines Sur vice governor for two terms.
