'Love affair' eyed as motive in radioman's murder

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines  - Police authorities said the murder of a part-time radioman in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay could have been triggered by the victim's love affair.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, Police Regional Office 9 (PRO) spokesman,  said police investigation  indicates that the killing of Mario Vendiola Baylosis was not work-related.

Baylosis, 33, a company guard who was a volunteer disc jockey and announcer of DXLM FM Radyo Natin station, was shot Monday shortly before noon while on his way home along the highway of Barangay Salipyasin, Kabasalan town by two unidentified assailants.

Kabasalan police investigators disclosed that Baylosis, who was employed as company guard of a cooperative, was said to have an affair with a woman.

“It appeared that the incident was not work-related. Although ground police operatives have yet to dig more on the real motive, they were inclined to believe it has to do with the love angle,” Huesca said.

He said the police would continue to investigate to  identify the suspects after two witnesses who were invited failed to identify the assailants who immediately fled after the shooting the victim.  - Roel Pareño
