Gunmen kill radio broadcaster in Zamboanga Sibugay

ZAMBOANGA CITY - Unidentified gunmen killed a radio broadcaster in an ambushed in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay on Monday morning.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesman of the Zamboanga Peninsula regional police office, identified the victim as Mario Vendiola Baylosis, 33, a resident of Barangay Goodyear and disc jockey and reporter of DXLM 101.7 of Radyo Natin based in Kabasalan town.

The victim was on board his service motorcycle and was on his way home when ambushed by two motorcycle-riding gunmen in front of a gasoline station in Barangay Saliyasin at around 11:30 a.m.

The suspects fled going to Ipil direction after shooting the radio broadcaster dead, police said citing witnesses' accounts.

Jerry Kimos, manager of manager of DXNC based in Titay town, where the victim used to work as a field reporter, said that the victim had just came from his regular music entertainment program.

“The victim had no known enemies. He was a good man,” Kimos said.

Huesca said that Baylosis sustained three gunshot wounds in his chest.

Crime scene investigators recovered three spent shells believed to be fired from a .45 pistol.

Police were still investigating the killing.
