PAGASA: Rain over Metro Manila likely today

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Metro Manila residents may get a respite from the summer heat as a thunderstorm could form over the region until Monday night, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In a 10 a.m. update in its Facebook account, PAGASA said a thunderstorm is more likely to develop over Metro Manila within 12 hours. The agency also advised the public to regularly monitor updates.

PAGASA said earlier in its forecast that Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the provinces of Isabela, Quirino and Aurora will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

The weather bureau also said the diffused tail-end of a cold front is affecting northern Luzon while the easterlies are affecting the eastern sections of southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

"Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas," the weather bureau added.

On Friday, PAGASA recorded the temperature in Metro Manila at 36.6 degrees Celsius, the hottest in the year so far for the capital region.
