MANILA, Philippines — Floods affected hundreds of families in two villages in South Cotabato due to incessant heavy rains during the weekend, the state disaster response agency reported Monday.
In its initial report on Monday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the flooding incident occurred at Purok 7, Barangay Esperanza, Norala town and at Purok 4, Barangay Lopez Jaena around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
A total of 330 families were affected but no evacuations were conducted, according to the NDRRMC.
The agency said continuous heavy rainfall caused a canal of the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) to overflow, which spawned the flooding.
The local disaster agency in the affected area is closely monitoring the water level along the NIA canal, the NDRRMC said.
