6 of 13 Negros jail escapees recaptured
BACOLOD City, Philippines – Six of the 13 inmates who escaped the Sagay City District Jail in Negros Occidental three days ago were recaptured yesterday and the other day, police said.
Senior Superintendent Ricardo dela Paz, acting Negros Occidental police director, said four of the fugitives – Joemar Libester, 26; Jimmy Vistar, 18; Joenard Quirante, 22, and Jolito Subteniente, 26 – were arrested before noon yesterday in Hacienda Balbina, Barangay Rafaela in Sagay City.
The two others, Rolando Bajo Jr., 22, and Jeck Española, 24, were recaptured Friday at a bus terminal in Cadiz City, also in Negros Occidental.
Chief Inspector Edel Jose Manzano, Sagay City police chief, said the manhunt for seven other escapees was ongoing as of press time.
The jailbreak resulted in the relief of jail warden Chief Inspector Benny Freddie Cobarde.
Jail Officers 1 Joever Valenzuela and Francis Ballador, who were the custodial officers on duty when the jailbreak happened, were placed under restrictive custody.
