MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 4 earthquake hit Surigao City early yesterday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The earthquake was felt in some areas in four provinces.
Intensity 5 was recorded in Surigao City; 4 in Taganaan, Surigao del Norte; 3 in Tubod, Surigao del Norte; 2 in San Francisco, Placer, Claver, and Gigaquit all in Surigao del Norte, and in Kitcharao in Agusan del Norte; and 1 in Tubay, Agusan del Norte.
The tremor, said to be of tectonic in origin, was felt at 4:53 a.m. some 10 kilometers southwest of Surigao City.
No damages or aftershocks were expected.
