P3.7M worth of marijuana seized in Benguet

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) have recovered five sacks of dried marijuana stalks abandoned in a sayote plantation site in Benguet.

PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. said that the recovered dried marijuana stalks weighed roughly around 30 kilograms, worth P3,750,000.

Cacdac said that combined teams from the PDEA and the police recovered the marijuana stalks last April 8 in Sitio Pagal, Shilan, La Trinidad town.

The operation was conducted after a concerned citizen reported that five sacks with suspicious contents were abandoned by unidentified persons in the area.

"We are not discounting the possibilities that the sacks were intentionally left behind for fear of detection by authorities or abandoned to be picked-up by someone. It was a good thing a concerned citizen reported it to us first before the intended receiver got hold of the illegal drugs," Cacdac said.
