LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – Health authorities are urging individuals to take necessary precautions like avoiding too much exposure under the sun and taking adequate fluids after a barangay tanod (watchman) and a re-electionist councilor died of heatstroke while campaigning in Canaman town, Camarines Sur.

Tanod Patrick Abainza, 60, was campaigning with a mayoral candidate’s group when he suddenly complained of dizziness.

When he arrived home, Abainza took a shower and then started vomiting and became unconscious. Based on the autopsy, he died of internal hemorrhage due to heatstroke.

Earlier, re-electionist Canaman councilor Loreto Trampe also died of heatstroke after doing his campaign rounds.
