Cop killed, one more hurt in metro gun attacks

MANILA, Philippines - A policeman was killed and another was hurt in separate attacks in Taguig and Quezon City on Monday night and Tuesday morning.

A radio dzMM report identified the fatalities as Senior Police Officer 1 Mohammad Sugud and Police Officer 2 Gerardo Granado, both assigned with the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

The report said that Sugud was shot dead while on board his motorcycle in Central Bicutan, Taguig City on Monday night.

Granado, assigned with the QCPD's Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, was also on board a motorcycle when he was shot along Litex Road in Fairview, Quezon City on Tuesday morning. He is now undergoing treatment at the East Avenue Medical Center.

Police are investigating the separate incidents.

The attacks happened even as the Philippine National Police is on a heightened alert as it implements a nationwide election gun ban.
