The Philippine Star

STA. CRUZ, Laguna, Philippines – President Aquino attended last week’s launch here of the Laguna Lake Development Authority’s Flood Control and River Protection Convergence Project as per the memorandum of agreement between the agency and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The P780-million project is part of DPWH’s Master Plan for Flood Management in Metro Manila and the Laguna Lake region.

Secretary Nereus Acosta, LLDA general manager, said his agency, together with the DPWH, will construct and rehabilitate river control structures in various rivers flowing into Laguna Lake such as the Mabitac, Sta. Maria, Sta. Cruz, Biñan, and San Pedro rivers, all in Laguna, to prevent damage and devastation caused by floods.

Acosta said the P780-million is part of the P5-billion fund approved by the National Economic Development Authority Board for the Metro Manila Flood Management Master Plan.
