Gunman shoots local businessman dead in North Cotabato

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO City, Philippines - An unidentified gunman shot dead a local businessman in Tulunan, North Cotabato on Sunday night.

Senior Inspector Ronnie Cordero, chief of the Tulunan municipal police, said the victim identified as Marcial Ylanan died on the spot from gunshot wounds he sustained in the attack.

Ylanan was attending to his customers at an amusement park when the suspect, clad in denim pants and a dark-colored shirt, approached and shot him repeatedly with a .45 pistol.

The assailant casually took Ylanan’s wallet from his pocket as a commotion, triggered by the shots he fired, ensued.

The gunman left the scene on board a motorcycle parked several meters away from the spot where he shot Ylanan dead.

The shooting incident was the second in Tulunan in three weeks, according to investigators.

A couple, who are also traders, earlier survived an ambush in Barangay Sibsib, a remote area in Tulunan, while on their way home riding a motorcycle.
