CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A former Surigao del Norte mayor and a businessman survived gun attacks in separate incidents in Biñan City this province last Friday afternoon, police said.
Chief Superintendent Benito Espitona, Calabarzon police director, ordered his men to work on the early resolution of the slay attempt on former mayor Chary Mangacop, 65, and the shooting of businessman Realista Vito Piezas, 54, in a foiled robbery.
Espitona said Mangacop managed to escape unhurt when his driver swerved toward the gate of the Southwoods village when unidentified men fired at his car at noon last Friday.
An hour later, two armed men blocked the path of Piezas after he had withdrawn money from a bank along A. Bonifacio Road in Biñan.
Police said Piezas was shot and wounded when he refused to give the money. He managed to escape from his attackers.
