ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Masked gunmen killed two lumberjacks in an upland village of Dinas town, Zamboanga del Norte on Saturday, police said yesterday.
The victims were identified as Rodulfo Clarin and Cristopher Tagayan, both married and residents of Barangay San Pablo.
Initial investigation showed that Clarin and Tagayan were cutting coconut trees using a chainsaw when four unidentified men shot them repeatedly with an M-16 rifle.
The suspects then took the chainsaw and fled on foot toward an unknown direction.
