PCG tells units to prepare for Lenten rush

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard on Friday instructed its field units nationwide to review and intensify security measures for the Holy Week.

Coast Guard chief Rear Admiral Rodolfo Isorena said he directed all units deployed in more than 100 passenger terminals and ports to strictly implement security measures so that criminals and other groups will not be able to take advantage of the Lenten rush.

Isorena also said that he ordered all units to prepare measures that would ease the passengers' burden at the ports, which are expected to be packed starting next week due to the influx of people returning to their provinces.

The coast guard chief said he has also ordered commanders to monitor all maritime activities and make sure that all of their personnel are ready for immediate deployment during emergencies.
